Definition
Unity gain refers to a level setting where a piece of gear neither amplifies nor attenuates the signal passing through it: input = output. In technical terms: 0 dB of gain. No boost, no cut, just a clean pass-through.
Operating at or near unity gain is the first step to good gain staging. When every device in your signal chain (interface, monitor controller, speakers) is doing its job without over-boosting or over-compensating, you get the best possible signal-to-noise ratio and the most accurate representation of your mix.
Unity Gain and Your Kali Setup
On LP-6 V2, LP-8 V2, IN-5, and IN-8 V2, the Input Gain knob has a center detent at +/- 0 dB. Beyond being the technically optimal position, it's also the easiest way to guarantee both monitors in a stereo pair are set to the same exact level.
All Kali models have a unity-gain setting. You can find the full users guide for every Kali product HERE.
